Significant dates in the history of the Beeston Road Club.


The club was formed in1945 when a group of cyclists met on Wollaton Park on V E day. They had arranged to meet for a ride and agreed to form the Beeston Touring Club. Since that time runs have been held regularly commencing from Beeston Post Office Square. Year by year items of note since the formation of the Club have been :-

1949 Members first competed in cycle races.
First club dinner organised
First club tour held. ( 2 weeks in Devon )
1950 First club records established.
1954 First promotion of Open 100 mile Time Trial
1955 At a General Meeting held on 9th June the name of the club was officially changed to the Beeston Road Club.
1956 Arthur Panter elected President
First Road Race and Cyclo Cross promotions
First Ladies club records established.
1959/
1962 Nottingham - Skegness Road Races organised on behalf of the B.C.F.
1959 Club promoted National 100 mile Time Trial Championship.
1960 Member dismissed from club for misconduct.
Rider disqualified from club Time Trial for taking pace and jumping traffic lights
Present design of club medals originated.
John Perry elected treasurer.
1962 First edition of En Ligne, the club magazine published.
1963/
1966 Football lotteries promoted to raise funds.
1964 10th Anniversary of Open 100 mile Time Trial
Charles Rice Trophy donated to the Club
Club chairman Bernard Barnetson killed in accident while leading A.N.D.C.C. 100
1965 Bernard Barnetson Trophy donated to the A.N.D.C.C.
Steve Custance elected General Secretary
1966 First organised club trip to Morecombe weekend
1967 Club promoted National Junior Road Race Championship. Winner Phil Edwards.
Charles Rice Trophy Road Race first promoted.
1968 Horizontal Trophy first awarded.
1972 Club promoted the National Amateur Pursuit Championship and the National 50 kilometre Motor Paced Championship at Leicester Track.
1975/
1977 Club sponsored by Mansfield Brewery.
1976 Two riders disqualified from Open 100 mile T.T. for paced riding
1981 Beeston Town Centre races first promoted
Cyclo Cross Championship introduced
Former Secretary and Chairman Maurice Snuggs died.
1982 First 200 Club lottery promoted to raise funds.
1983 Ladies Championship introduced.
1985 Donington Park Criteriums promoted
John Kelly elected Chairman
1986 Miss Polly Evening Time Trial League sponsorship began.
1989 Sid Standard elected President following the retirement of Arthur Panter.
1992 New design of Club race clothing introduced.
1995 Former President Arthur Panter died.
50th anniversary Dinner dance & Prize Presentation held.
1997 John Kelly moved to Ireland and Mick Hart takes over as Chairman
Club raised £2605 for James Hallam Fund
2000 Club promoted last East Midlands Division Road Race Championship
2001 Club promoted 1st East Midlands Region Area R R Championship
2002 New Design of Club Clothing introduced.
Tom Walters wins G.H.S. 10 Mile Championship
Heather Summers wins Ladies Under 23 National Road Race Championship
2003 Final year of the Miss Polly Sponsorship of the Evening Time Trial League
Helen Gutteridge wins Ladies National Criterium Championship
Sid Standard dies 10 days after being involved in an accident on a clubrun in Derbyshire
2004 Mike Davis elected as President of the Club.
